SOAR TO SUCCESS

SOAR to Success builds critical knowledge and awareness that leads to behavioral change.

SOAR to Success is a prevention and education program that support youth and adults who have experienced abuse, neglect, poverty, and homelessness.

It also equips adult allies, including mentors, teachers, parents and support staff  with the knowledge and resources to support youth and young adults.

SOAR to Success staff members take the time to understand and build rapport with participants while sharing critical topics that help build self-sufficient and independent lives.

The program includes three parts: Discovery, Workshops and Taking Flight.

Our non-residential SOAR to Success program is for:

  • Young women, ages 12-24, who are housing-insecure or at risk for becoming homeless

  • Women 24 years and older who have experienced homelessness and are currently connected with our partner organizations

  • Any youth, young adult or adult ally who wants to learn life skills that break generational cycles of abuse, neglect, poverty and homelessness

S.O.A.R. To Success helps foster:

  • Life skills

  • Building a stable future

A Three-Part Program

  • SOAR Discovery is an on-going mentoring group that features small discussions and education for young women (ages 12–18). The success of SOAR Discovery relies on the talents of our staff, who advocate for the young women, build rapport and provide useful guidance throughout the school year.

It meets audiences where they are, in places such as school campuses during lunch time. Going directly to the youth encourages them to come to school, attend the group and stay engaged.

In 2021, 100% of participants increased one or more skills that help prevent homelessness, grew their social capital, and gained financial skills.

  • SOAR Workshops share a single or series of life skills with large groups of youth and/or adult allies. These one- to two-hour presentations cover topics such as college retention for young people or understanding the mentality of poverty and trauma for partner organization staff, AKA “adult allies” working with youth in need.

In 2021, 100% of participants learned a skill that improved their life.

  • Created by Our Friends Place, Taking Flight is an intensive for women ages 18-45 who have experienced abuse, neglect, poverty or homelessness but who are currently housed away from their hectic lives. The program focuses on building stability and a foundation for their future.

In 2021, 100% of participants improved three or more skills that increase stability, increased job skills and learned more skills to advance their education.
